New: Design templates with title page layouts

Eye-catching covers are really important for successful calendars. We might have mentioned that before. (Ok, admittedly, we’re actually very fond of mentioning it). In order to support you in designing professional calendars that convince potential buyers “at a glance”, we have now introduced new and free of charge design templates for your use.

You’ll find the templates (for DIN formats only) in the Calvendo online editor in the bottom right corner under “calendar grids and design templates”. The layout of the images, font and font size as well as year on the cover are predefined and cannot be changed. You might find that restrictive at first, however, it’ll make it easier for you to create a visually more impressive cover. Plus, there’s still enough room for your creativity: You can, for example, choose individual colour moods for your images. Once you’ve added a picture/pictures, click on colours in the top right, then on one of the squares that show up below and then on “select colours”. A window will open up with a variety of colours for you to choose from and find the one that best fits your image(s).

Never underestimate the power of your cover, we say! We can’t stress it often enough but your calendar cover is vital for making your product a success. It is the most important element of your calendar – and a selling point. The image you choose for your cover therefore needs to be convincing, as does your title and subtitle (if you choose one), font and overall design of the cover.

Advent calendar door number 23: Pss, don’t forget to call a loved one this Christmas! Reminding you with this delightful pop art painting from our self-publisher JJ Galloway, a US artist who focuses on depicting the ‘beauty of the commonplace‘. Her Pop Culture calendar is full of nostalgic and sentimental icons of urban life that have been given a pop art twist.

Opening door number 21 of our Advent calendar and you can see that UK photographer Mark Bridger has a real knack for wildlife photography. His favourite subjects are deer. Cue: his gorgeous Deer calendar. We particularly like this wonderful creature, however, there are many more … (Btw, Mark was one of our very first UK self-publishers when Calvendo launched in the UK in late summer 2014!)

Drum rolls on this fourth Sunday of Advent: The Impossimals are back! With twelve new images created for the Peter Smith Impossimals 2016 calendars that should delight every Impossimals fan out there. We, for one, are very happy that Peter & Jayne Smith, the UK creators of the famous striped rotund characters called Impossimals with over two million collectors worldwide (wow!) have chosen to work with Calvendo to bring their first calendar in five years on the market. And yes, in the words of the Impossimals, tell someone you love them – it’s Christmas, after all!

Opening door number 18 of our Advent calendar and looking at these gentle giants makes us calm down in this hectic time of year. Artist and writer Peter Williams creates much loved photo-realistic wildlife pencil drawings and we’re glad that he’s working with Calvendo to produce calendars such as his Might Fine Art Drawn Wild one.

So graceful: Hidden behind door number 15 of our Advent calendar is this beautiful flamingo. Photographer Dave Knowles has put together a whole collection of images for his Just Flamingos calendar featuring this type of wading bird in all its glory. The colours are delightful, showing that Mother Nature simply always does it best.
